Farscape is Australian SF TV series with human John Crichton (Ben Browder) and humanoid alien Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) as main characters accompanied with living ship Leviathan, impressive Luxan warrior Ka DArgo, blue skinned plant like priestess Pau Zotoh Zhaan, Dominar Rygel tiny creature with voracious appetite and the number of other colorful characters. Nearly the entire cast originates from Australia and New Zealand, with the exception of Ben Browder, who is an American actor and this is maybe reason why this series is not globally popular but every decent SF fan should watch it. Why? Although the storyline is not always consistent and demanding, the alien society in Farscape must be simply seen at least due to reason that they are made by Hallmark Entertainment, Nine Network and Jim Hensons Creature Shop (specialized for building creatures for films including Doctor Dolittle, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Babe...). After some time you will like confused John Crichton and his crew, there are some interesting evil villains e.g. Scorpius chasing Crichton throughout universe up to his own mind as Looney Tunes cartoon character, the series contains sufficient level of gun and spice fights, chases, gender relations and romance are included between main and side characters so your girlfriend can watch TV series with you. And the most important thing, Farscape is not pretending to be sophisticated hard core technology SF, it is always bordering with comedy, but never insulting your intelligence so you just need open mind and popcorn for long hours of pure fun. Interesting fact is that during broadcasting of fourth season, the Sci Fi cancelled funding of fifth season of Farscape, but the series dedicated fans launched considerable campaign attracting independent financiers who helped Jim Henson Company to produce Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars miniseries which completed the story.
